Beyond the Reset Skincare Guide

SAGE SKINCARE

Beyond the Reset

A deeper dive into the SAGE Skincare 7-Day Reset.
Two products everywhere you need them.

How SAGE Complete works, how to get more from your products, and what dry, sensitive and eczema-prone skin may be telling you.

The SAGE Skincare philosophy

Healthy skin does not require a complicated routine. SAGE Skincare is built around two ideas: give skin meaningful support, and make that support easier to use consistently.

SAGE Complete is intentionally complete with two products: Renew Oil and Skin Shield Lip Balm.

Renew Oil is the all-over workhorse for face, body, scalp and hair. It combines true multi-use versatility with a broad botanical lipid, fatty-acid and antioxidant profile, allowing one concentrated formula to do the work of several products while providing tangible skin and hair conditioning benefits.

Skin Shield Lip Balm completes the system with a purpose-built formula for the lips, an anatomical site with distinct barrier needs.

Your complimentary Body Balm is additional support, not a missing step in SAGE Complete. Use it when you prefer richer body conditioning or when your skin, environment or routine calls for more.

The SAGE Complete routine
RENEW  →  PROTECT

Renew. Use Renew Oil across the face, body, scalp and hair according to your needs. One formula can replace multiple conditioning products, simplifying the routine without reducing the intention behind it.

Protect. Use Skin Shield Lip Balm consistently to condition and protect dry, exposed lips. Reapply as needed rather than waiting for cracking or significant discomfort.

That is SAGE Complete. The goal is not to create a longer sequence. It is to make effective daily care easier to sustain.

Why application after bathing matters

Renew Oil and SAGE Skincare Balms are anhydrous: they are formulated without added water. Oils and balms do not supply water to the skin, so application technique matters.

After a short, lukewarm shower or bath, gently pat rather than rubbing the skin completely dry. Applying Renew Oil or a Body Balm while skin is still slightly damp pairs the water already present on the skin with emollient lipids and protective ingredients that help support softness, suppleness and reduced water loss.

You can also use either product on dry skin whenever conditioning is needed.

Renew Oil: simplicity with expanded support

Renew Oil begins with jojoba and baobab, ingredients that also appear in the SAGE Skincare balm platform, then broadens that foundation with shea oil, high-linoleic sunflower oil, marula oil, castor oil, black seed oil, sea buckthorn fruit oil, tocopherols and rosemary extract.

These additions were selected for more than texture. Together they supply fatty acids, skin-conditioning lipids and antioxidants that support healthy barrier function and comfortable, healthy-looking skin.

Renew Oil’s versatility is therefore functional as well as practical: the same concentrated formula can condition the face and body, support dry scalp and hair, and reduce the number of separate products required in a daily routine.

Best ways to use Renew Oil
Body. Apply a small amount after bathing, ideally while skin is still slightly damp. Spread well before adding more.
Face. Use a few drops as the conditioning oil step in a routine your skin already tolerates. Start conservatively, particularly with acne-prone or reactive skin.
Scalp. Apply sparingly where conditioning is needed. Avoid unnecessary saturation or buildup.
Hair. Smooth a small amount through dry areas or ends, or incorporate it into a pre-wash or leave-in routine according to your hair’s needs.

The Renew Oil rule: start small, distribute well, and add only what you need.

Skin Shield Lip Balm: targeted care

Lips face repeated exposure to eating, drinking, weather, talking and wetting, and their barrier differs from surrounding facial skin. Skin Shield Lip Balm provides concentrated, site-specific conditioning and protection.

Apply a thin, even layer and reapply as needed. Protect lips before they become cracked or markedly uncomfortable. If lip licking is part of your dryness cycle, replacing that reflex with lip balm can help reduce repeated wetting and evaporation.

Your Body Balm bonus: another tool, not another required step

Your SAGE Complete purchase includes a complimentary Body Balm because some skin benefits from, or simply prefers, richer body care. The balm is not required to make SAGE Complete complete, and it does not have to be layered over Renew Oil.

Use your Body Balm instead of Renew Oil for body care when you want a richer formulation, use it for additional support during dry weather or periods of increased barrier stress, or layer the two occasionally if that genuinely benefits your skin.

One balm foundation. Different skin needs.

SAGE Skincare Balms share a common botanical foundation of jojoba, baobab, shea butter, mango butter, beeswax and vitamin E. SAGE Skincare deliberately adjusts the relative proportions of the shared ingredients to create different functional and sensory profiles for different skin characteristics and anatomical sites.

Bare Baby is the most shea-rich Body Balm. It is designed for sensitive, easily reactive and barrier-vulnerable skin, including immature skin, but it is not a product only for babies. The name reflects the intent behind the formula: ‘Bare’ where minimizing potential sensitizing exposures matters, and gentle enough for immature skin. Bare Baby intentionally omits black seed oil.

Skin Shield is designed for persistently dry, barrier-stressed or seasoned skin and adds black seed oil for expanded botanical and antioxidant support.

The broader SAGE Skincare balm platform also includes Smooth Skin and Skin Glow, formulated for skin that tends to be combination, oil-prone or acne-prone.

What your skin barrier is doing

The outermost layer of skin helps limit water loss and protects the body from environmental irritants and allergens. When barrier function is disrupted, water can escape more readily and the skin may become more vulnerable to external exposures.

That can show up as dryness, tightness, roughness, scaling, itching or discomfort. Good skincare cannot correct every cause of those symptoms, but consistent conditioning, appropriate barrier support and avoidance of unnecessary irritation can improve the environment in which the skin has to function.

If you have eczema

Eczema is not simply severe dry skin. Atopic dermatitis involves both barrier dysfunction and inflammation. A vulnerable barrier can increase water loss and exposure to environmental irritants and allergens; inflammation produces itch; scratching then creates additional barrier injury.

BARRIER DISRUPTION → WATER LOSS AND EXPOSURE → INFLAMMATION AND ITCH → SCRATCHING → MORE BARRIER INJURY

SAGE Skincare products are cosmetic formulas. They can condition intact dry skin, support the skin’s lipid environment and provide protective barrier support, but they do not treat the underlying inflammatory disease.

During periods when eczema is stable and the skin is intact, a consistent, simple routine can be useful. Renew Oil offers broad multi-use conditioning and expanded botanical support when tolerated. A SAGE Skincare Body Balm can be used as the primary body product when richer barrier care is preferred. Bare Baby is the SAGE Skincare balm option designed with sensitivity and barrier vulnerability in mind.

During a significant active flare, more cosmetic product is not necessarily the answer. If skin is open, weeping, crusted, very painful, markedly swollen or intensely inflamed, follow your established eczema treatment plan or contact a healthcare professional rather than repeatedly adding skincare.

Common contributors to eczema flares
Barrier disruption. Frequent washing, harsh cleansing and friction can worsen an already vulnerable barrier.
Hot water. Long, hot bathing can increase dryness after the temporary comfort wears off.
Irritants and allergens. Fragrance and other exposures can provoke symptoms in susceptible individuals.
Heat and sweat. Both can increase itching for some people.
Cold or low-humidity environments. Greater water loss can make dry skin harder to manage.
Scratching. The itch-scratch cycle creates additional mechanical injury.
Stress. Stress can contribute to flares in some individuals, although eczema is not caused by a person simply being stressed.
Eczema and highly melanated skin

Descriptions of eczema often emphasize redness, but inflammation can be less visually obvious on deeply melanated skin. Affected skin may appear dark brown, purple or violaceous, gray, ashen, or simply different from the surrounding skin. Texture change, scale, swelling and symptoms may sometimes be more informative than redness alone.

Pay attention to itching, burning, tenderness, roughness, scaling, thickening and changes in texture. A flare does not have to look bright red to be significant.

After inflammation improves, highly melanated skin may remain darker or lighter than the surrounding skin. Post-inflammatory pigment change can persist after the active eczema has settled. Aggressive scrubbing, exfoliating acids or irritating ‘brightening’ routines can create new inflammation and prolong the problem.

CONTROL INFLAMMATION → SUPPORT THE BARRIER → MINIMIZE NEW IRRITATION → GIVE PIGMENT TIME
Common pitfalls
1.Using more product because skin feels dry. SAGE Skincare formulas are concentrated. Start with a small amount, distribute it well, and increase only when needed.
2.Thinking an oil supplies water. Renew Oil is anhydrous. When possible, pair it with the water already on your skin after bathing.
3.Treating Body Balm as a mandatory second step. It is a complete body-care formulation in its own right and a bonus option alongside SAGE Complete.
4.Scrubbing away flakes. Friction can worsen barrier disruption and inflammation.
5.Taking long, very hot showers. Shorter, lukewarm bathing is generally kinder to dry and sensitive skin.
6.Introducing many new products at once. Reactive skin is easier to understand when products are introduced methodically.
7.Assuming botanical means reaction-proof. Any skincare ingredient can cause irritation or allergy in a susceptible individual.
8.Skipping the patch test. Especially with reactive or eczema-prone skin, try a new product on a small area first.
9.Trying to manage active eczema with skincare alone. Barrier-supportive cosmetics and medical treatment have different jobs.

How to patch test: apply a small amount to a quarter-sized area of intact skin, such as the inner forearm, once daily for several days. If you notice burning, stinging, itching, redness, discoloration or new bumps, stop and do not use the product more widely. Patch testing reduces risk but cannot rule out every reaction.

Your 7-Day Reset: what are you actually testing?

The Reset is not a challenge to use more products. It is a seven-day experiment in making effective skincare simpler and more consistent.

Days 1–2 | Simplify. Establish SAGE Complete: use Renew Oil across the face and body as appropriate and scalp or hair as needed; use Skin Shield Lip Balm consistently. Try your complimentary Body Balm when you prefer richer body care.
Days 3–4 | Notice. How long does your skin remain comfortable? Where is Renew Oil replacing another product? Do you prefer the Body Balm for body care? Are you reapplying because your skin needs it, or from habit?
Days 5–6 | Personalize. Settle into the simplest routine that works. You may use Renew Oil as the everyday multi-use workhorse, choose Body Balm for richer body care, alternate them according to weather or preference, or occasionally layer when useful.
Day 7 | Assess. Look at both skin benefit and routine burden. The goal is not perfect skin in seven days; it is a clearer understanding of what supports your skin and a routine simple enough to sustain.
Day 7 check-in
Does my skin feel softer, more comfortable or less tight?
Does my skin stay conditioned for longer?
Am I scratching or reaching for product less often?
Which SAGE Skincare products did I use most consistently?
Did Renew Oil replace other face, body, scalp or hair conditioning products?
Do I prefer Renew Oil or Body Balm for routine body care, and does that change with weather or skin condition?
Did I experience burning, stinging, increased itching or another reaction?
Most importantly: is taking care of my skin easier?
When to get medical help

Seek medical evaluation for rapidly worsening inflammation or discoloration, significant warmth or swelling, pus or drainage, marked pain, fever, spreading symptoms, or eczema that is not responding to your established treatment plan.

THE IDEA TO REMEMBER
Meaningful support.
Fewer unnecessary steps.
Renew Oil simplifies broad daily conditioning. Skin Shield Lip Balm provides targeted lip care. Your Body Balm gives you a richer body-care option when you want or need it. Your skin can change with weather, environment, hormones, age and health. Your routine can change with it.
